Is the term healthy dessert an oxymoron? Maybe not. Dark chocolate, red wine, and fruit all have health benefits. Use these simple ideas to enjoy dessert guilt free.

Fruit contains essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber. It is also low in fat, calories, and sodium. It has no cholesterol. If you eat fruit regularly, you are less likely to develop chronic diseases like stroke, cardiovascular disease, or certain cancers. Dark chocolate has flavonoids which act as antioxidants to help the body's cells resist free radical damage. Flavonoids may also lower blood pressure, contributing to improved cardiovascular health. And wine? Red wine contains phytochemicals which may reduce the risk of heart disease and certain cancers. Drinking moderate amounts of red wine may also slow the progression of neurological disorders like Parkinson's Disease and Alzheimer's.

Healthy Desserts

They are so simple and delicious that you will surely be able to find one to try tonight. Uncork the wine and enjoy a treat, without mentally preparing for the "damage control" that will have to take place at the gym tomorrow.
